MAY 2017
6 North East Regional Meeting - Co-Hosted by Jim Carothers and Tom Nelson, will be at the blacksmith shop in Pawhuska, OK. This shop is behind ( S ) of the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce office building. Address: 210 W Main St, Pawhuska, OK 74056 Phone:(918) 287-1208. Plan to be there about 9AM to get stuff set up. We'll need to bring a couple of portable forges, tools, coal, etc. I can bring my portable smithing stuff and campfire gear for making coffee. Bring some lawn chairs and a camp table; extra aprons, gloves, etc. would be good too. Last year we had several new people want to try their hand at smithing. Lunch: I'll plan to bring beans and cornbread ( Dutch oven made on site ) for lunch along with bowls, plastic spoons, napkins, etc. Someone will need to bring drinks; someone will need to bring a desert or two. Anyone up for cranking some homemade ice cream? If we left the lid off for a few minutes, we could call it "coal dust ripple" ice cream. Trade Item: Make or donate a tool for the Pawhuska shop. 13 South East Regional Meeting - Hosted by Ronnie Smith at the Camp Hope Kids Ranch at 400 N. A St. McAlester, OK 74501. The trade item will be a cross. 20 South West Regional Meeting - Hosted by JJ McGill a the Murray County antique tractor show grounds location. This meeting will host Boy Scouts from Tulsa. About 65 Scouts are expected plus Leaders and Parents. Any smiths that would like to help out educating and working with the young Scouts are greatly appreciated. The trade item is a flint striker. Lunch will be provided but please bring a side dish or dessert to help out. Directions: 7 miles north of Sulphur on Hwy 177 then east ¾ mile on Tractor Road. 3 North East Regional Meeting - Hosted by Gerald Brostek at his shop at 237 N. Crabtree Road, Muskogee, Ok 74403. The trade item will be a knife shoe horn. 24 North West Regional Meeting - Hosted by Terry Kauk at his home/shop in Leedey, OK at 8411 N 2080 Rd. About 2 miles south of Leedey, go east at the intersection of Hwy 34 and Hwy 47. Go 2 miles east from the intersection, then 2 miles south, then 2 miles east, then approximately 1 1/8 miles south. Look for a two story brick house with tan shop north of the house. 1 North East Regional Meeting - Hosted by Marshall Hager at his shop north of Sand Springs. 5716 N Hwy 97, Sand Springs, OK 74063. Go north out of Sand Springs on HWY 97 about 7 miles. There is a sign on the west side of the highway in the shape of a goat that says “Kids For Sale.” The trade item is anything camp related. 8 South East Regional Meeting - hosted by Byron Doner at his shop located at 6520 Alameda, Norman, OK 73026. Instead of a trade item, the intent is for this to be a day of making tools to donate for the 2017 SCABA Conference Toolbox. (See more detail elsewhere in this newsletter.) Everyone who makes or donates a hand made tool will be eligible for a drawing to take home an extra tool made that day. 29 FULL!!! HAMMER MAKING WORKSHOP - A hammer making workshop will be held in the NE region on the July 29th fifth Saturday. The workshop will be held in the Tulsa area at 1924 N Joplin Ave, Tulsa, OK. Class size will be limited so register as soon as possible if you are interested. Directions: East out of Claremore on Hwy 20 approx 8.5 miles to Ns 4230 (sinors gas station on the left) at 4230 turn left (north) go approx 2.5 miles turn right (east) on RD 460. Go approx 1 mile to Rd 4240, turn right. The trade item will be a Friedrich’s Cross. Lunch will be provided (pulled pork). Please bring a side dish or desert to help out. The dates for the 2017 SCABA Conference have been set for October 21st and 22nd . The conference will again be held at the Murray County Antique Tractor Show grounds in Sulphur, OK. Mark your calendars!
